Next Meeting

When:

04/12/2017 – 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Reserve a spot at this event)

Where:

Temple Israel in Westport, CT. We meet in the Temple’s Board Room, on the first floor. The entrance is through the Temple’s administrative offices on the left hand side of the main entrance. Alumni members are always welcome!

Agenda:

Please try to be on time. I never punish those who show up on time by starting late. And, you honestly do miss something when you arrive late.

The beginning of the meeting will be devoted to members delivering their 90-second announcements so we can learn more about each other.

We are pleased to announce that for this meeting on April 12th we have scheduled a presentation entitled “Fired at 50: How to Overcome the Greatest Executive Job Search Challenge” which addresses the special job search challenges facing senior executives in transition who take up to twice as long to find their next job as younger executives.

Our guest presenters will be the legendary team of Tucker Mays and Bob Sloane, Principals of OptiMarket LLC, and authors of the best selling book of the same name.

Link to http://www.FiredatFifty.com for more information about our presenters and their book. Since co-founding OptiMarket in 2001, Tucker and Bob have coached hundreds of executives over 50 on how to successfully overcome the age bias to find their next job in the shortest time possible.

In their presentation, Tucker and Bob will discuss:

- Reasons for the over 50 age bias
- Seven ways to overcome the bias
- How to make your age an asset
- Proven rules to shorten your search

Tucker Mays and Bob Sloane are co-founders and Principals of OptiMarket LLC, based in Darien, which for 17 years has provided executive coaching to
C-level executives over age 50 to help them find their next job in the shortest time possible.

Tucker began his career in Wall Street with Goldman Sachs, and then moved to the consumer products industry to pursue his strong interest in marketing. He has held marketing management positions with leading consumer products companies including Chesebrough Ponds and Miles Laboratories. At Miles, his last position was Vice President and General Manager of the Cutter Consumer Products Division. Since then, Tucker held positions as President/COO for several mid-market consumer companies including Avia, Spinergy, and McLaren which he grew to become leading U.S. and international brands.

Tucker holds a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Columbia Business School. He is a Mentor Program graduate of Corporate Coach University, and a founding member of the Executive Forum.

Bob has held key leadership roles in the consumer products, sports/entertainment, B2B and public sectors. He rose through domestic and International marketing management positions in the Shulton consumer products division of American Cyanamid to become President of Shulton Canada, Inc. Subsequently Bob directed Colgate-Palmolive’s worldwide personal care products, and he then led marketing for the startup of NFL Europe. He later became an advisor to IBM and the White House.

Bob holds a BA from St. Francis College, and an MBA from Baruch College of CUNY. He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Internet Marketing at St. Francis College, where he led the initiative to create an e-commerce concentration of study. Bob was a co-founder and the first Chairman of the Executive Forum, a premier executive career transition resource.

With regard to future meetings, please mark your calendars for the second Wednesday of the month and try to keep this date available. Interviews, work, and family emergencies are good exceptions.

In order to get the maximum benefit from our meeting:

1. Bring a name badge and/or "tent" to the meeting.*
2. Bring copies of your résumé and/or business cards.
3. Polish your 90 second announcement.

*(A tent is a 8" x 12" piece of cardboard folded in half with your name on BOTH sides.)

You should plan that the formal session will end no later than 6:30 PM so that the remaining 1/2 hour can be spent on a "scramble". Everyone should stay alert during the 90 second announcements so that when we break for individual networking you are able to connect in depth with as many people as possible. I want to strongly emphasize the importance to your job search of making a personal connection to other members.

If you bring a BIG name badge & big tent, this will also help. There is nothing more embarrassing than to get engrossed in a conversation with someone and have to ask them to repeat their name! Make it easy for others to remember you.
