Stan is the former president and CEO of PQ Corporation. He is the author of Be Different! The Key to Business and Career Success, a book that describes traits and practices of effective leaders. Be Different! teaches all businesses how to become the preferred provider of products or services in their market, so customers or clients will want to buy from them rather than their competition. It also teaches all of us as we progress through our careers how to be different than our peers, so we get that next promotion or job.

As a recognized thought leader and influencer, Stan is a widely read nationally syndicated columnist on leadership, entrepreneurship and corporate governance in the Philadelphia Business Journal and 42 affiliated business publications across the U.S. He is the former president and CEO of global PQ Corporation and has served on numerous public, private, private equity, nonprofit and educational institution boards.

Stan has been an invited guest speaker on leadership and creating competitive advantage for your business and yourself at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and at the LeBow College of Business of Drexel University, where he holds the position of senior executive in residence. Stan has been a speaker on leadership and governance issues at numerous conferences and events.

He is vice chairman of Drexel University. He is the former chairman of Drexel University College of Medicine, and former chairman of the Soap and Detergent Association. In addition to the board of Drexel University, Stan currently serves on the boards of three K-12 independent schools and the board of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.

Stan began his business career as a chemical process engineer at ARCO (Atlantic Richfield), subsequently acquired by BP (British Petroleum). Stan joined PQ Corporation in 1971. Prior to being named as CEO of PQ in January 2000, he held positions in engineering, operations planning, marketing, sales and business unit executive management, including president of PQ’s subsidiary in Canada.

Stan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering and an MBA degree from Drexel University. He is also an alumnus of the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.
