Speakers: James Alex and Patti Burquest, Washington DC office RSM Principals

Orlando FENG invites Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Miami, Palm Beach, and Tampa Chapters

Summary:
Please join us as we discuss the impending election - the good, the bad, and the ugly - as it relates to potential tax law changes, regardless of the election outcome. We will review the proposed platform of each candidate and discuss high level planning ideas that can be utilized.

Speakers' bios:

James Alex is a National RSM principal focused on Go-to-Market for national services and Tax Policy. Previously, he served as a political appointee in the U.S. Treasury Department in the role of Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the United States for Tax Policy – the leading Tax position in the Treasury Department reporting to the Secretary. In December 2019, Jim was awarded the Meritorious Service Award from the U.S. Treasury Department for his service and leadership during Tax Reform implementation. Through his experience, Jim brings a strong understanding of tax policy considerations and the related political processes to RSM. Jim holds two Masters of Law from Georgetown Law School in Taxation and Securities Regulation, and a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Patti Burquest is a National RSM principal and serves as the Washington National Tax team leader in the area of tax controversy. With over 25 years handling IRS examination and appeals matters, her experience includes alternative dispute resolutions including: pre-filing agreements, advance issue resolution agreements, voluntary compliance agreements, fast track settlements/mediations, appeals settlements and post appeals mediations. Patti also specializes in penalty and interest abatements, IRS account issues, 9100 relief for missed elections and IRS filing issues. Previously, Patti was with the IRS Chief Counsel’s Office for seven years where she served as a National Office attorney and technical advisor to the IRS Chief Counsel and to the Special Counsel (Large Case).
