FENG Zoom Presentation – Understanding the Numbers

Does Everyone Else in the Business Understand Your Numbers?
We will show you how!

Do you ever get a sinking feeling that management doesn’t understand what you’ve presented to them? You’ve done a great job analyzing the financial results using KPIs, dashboards, and variance analyses and when you present your findings to management along with your recommendations to improve the processes and increase profitability you’re met with silence. They just don’t get it!

Can you change that? How? There are ways that you can help get the numbers to sink in and cause management to take the actions that you’re recommending. Sometimes it takes a graph or a dashboard -- not another spreadsheet!

Three people who combine their Finance expertise with data visualization know-how will share what they’ve learned in a webinar on October 15, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm Eastern Time. Join us and learn first-hand from the pros.

The Pros:

Joe Oringel
Joe Oringel is a FENG member and Managing Director at Visual Risk IQ LLC, a consulting firm established in 2006 to help finance and internal audit professionals see and understand their data. The firm has completed more than 100 successful data analytics and transaction monitoring engagements for clients across diverse industries including Higher Education, Banking, and HealthCare. Visual Risk IQ LLC is a Tableau Alliance partner, and they have helped dozens of finance and audit teams get up the learning curve with this powerful and easy to use tool for visual data analytics.
Joe has more than twenty-five years of experience in internal auditing, fraud detection, and forensics, including ten years of Big Four assurance and risk advisory services. He earned a BS in Accounting from Louisiana State University, where he took classes in their acclaimed Internal Auditing program. Joe later graduated from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned an MBA. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor and also volunteers his firm’s time and data analytics talents to help address social and economic issues including income inequality, K-12 education, and gun violence prevention.

Brad Earle
Brad is the founder and chair of the Greensboro, NC FENG Chapter and the local Greensboro Tableau User Group. Brad’s consulting practice offers Tableau installation, configuration, report development, customized training and POC validation (Proof of Concept) consulting services through a network of highly skilled (and vetted) Tableau consultants.

Brad discovered the benefits of advanced visualization tools after using 7 different reporting solutions while he was the Director of FP&A and a Sr. Mgr. of IT for Fortune 50 companies. The cost to implement, maintain and train in those other solutions limited their adoption. Since 2005, he has used Tableau at companies of all sizes -- from those that use Quickbooks to those that use SAP and Oracle for their accounting. At the end of the decade, Tableau had 14,000+ users and continues to receive accolades from peer journals and the public press.

Specialties: data mining, visual analysis, financial analysis, budget, variance analysis, cost accounting, project management, mergers, acquisitions, integration, Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, Teradata, Excel, pivot tables, macros, Tableau, Spotfire, Cognos, Hyperion, Essbase, manager, director, leader, Quickbooks.

Recent assignments to showcase Tableau capabilities include at National Oilwell Varco, to assist with the backend data audit during a shift from Banner to Workday backend systems at Bentley University. Between two 3-year Tableau engagements with Cisco Systems' worldwide Sales and Supply Chain design organization, Brad provided Wells Fargo Bank Tableau server administration and Tier 3 support for their 16,000 users. Prior to that Brad worked with Fannie Mae on their implementation of advanced visualization tools, specifically Tableau and Spotfire.

Brad earned his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and his Masters from UNC Greensboro.

Jack Tompkins
Jack has spent the majority of his professional career in the insurance world with roles ranging from analyst to product manager, and strategic partnership owner to team manager, all of which helped craft his ability to form Pineapple Consulting Firm.

Jack has taken those analytical, financial, and partnership skills and offers them to small and medium-sized businesses that know how powerful data can be, but don't have the internal resources to turn their data into a powerful business asset that they can actually see!

With a strong drive to work with people (not just numbers!), Jack aims to have some fun working with clients while analyzing and visualizing their data through Excel and Tableau dashboards so clients' past performance can inform their future strategy.

Jack earned his bachelor’s degree from The University of Connecticut.
