Topic: US-China IP disputes over key tech sectors and implication on foreign businesses

As an emerging powerhouse in technology, China’s practices in intellectual properties (IPs) has been a hot topic for audience in the US. In his talk, Neville Lam will present a macroscopic view of PRC’s technology development since its founding to recent era. He will revisit China’s adoption of the modern concept of IPs as a tool for technological development, its “national champions” with leading global IPs from sectors such as telecommunications, alternative energy, EV batteries and their disputes with US and other developed countries. Neville will also cross over to discuss China’s Nasdaq style STAR board and how it turbo-charges tech startups. He will conclude by exploring possible future scenarios on IP’s role in the country’s tech development and the role of foreign businesses in it.
Speaker’s bio:
Neville Lam is a partner at Kway Capital, a Shanghai based boutique corporate finance advisor which he founded with veteran foreign bankers. He has over 20 years of experience connecting overseas investors with China’s tech sector while working for international financial firms such as Morgan Stanley, HSBC and Duff & Phleps. His interest in China’s IP scene comes from his professional and academic exposure in the area with graduate degrees in IPs from Northwestern University and East China Political Science and Law University. Neville was also a former board member of the US-China Investment Council affiliated with the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.
