Topic: 15% Global Minimum Tax- 85% chances of success?
Speaker: Mr. Mohan R. Lavi, K. P. Rao & Company, Chartered Accountants
Presentation:
130 countries from across the world in partnership with the OECD, have signed a global tax deal which would ensure that multinational companies pay some minimum taxes in the countries they operate in. Till date, due to their international presence, they could engage in “ treaty shopping” thereby picking and choosing the amount of taxes they pay. The global tax deal is an attempt to prevent that.
This meeting would elaborate on the major aspects of both the tiers of the global tax deal as well as the challenges in its implementation. It would attempt to provide answers to a few questions such as:
1. Since not all countries have signed on the deal, will the tax deal be truly effective?
2. Could the top 100 companies still indulge in tax planning?
3. Would the global tax deal have adverse effects on tax collections in countries where the top 100 companies have only a nominal presence?
