All,

The next meeting of the Bergen FENG Chapter will be March 6, 2025 at 6:30pm via Zoom. Our speaker for the evening will be Todd Cohen.  Todd will discuss " The Unemployment Insurance Process – How it works and Impacts you".

Please sign up for this meeting on the Bergen County Chapter page at www.TheFENG.org no later than noon on March 5, 2025 as we expect a large attendance at this very important and interesting topic.

This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the Unemployment Insurance (UI) process, focusing on both the claimant’s experience and the employer’s perspective. Participants will gain valuable insight into how individuals file for UI, who qualifies for benefits, and how factors like severance pay can impact eligibility. The session will also address common questions about where to file a claim, ensuring attendees understand the essential steps and criteria from the claimant’s point of view. By exploring these aspects, the presentation aims to clarify the often complex UI process for both employees and employers.

In addition to the claimant’s perspective, the presentation will delve into how organizations can effectively manage their UI processes to reduce costs. Attendees will learn strategies to control claims, mitigate unnecessary expenses, and remain compliant with regulations. The session will also examine the significant changes in the UI landscape following the pandemic, highlighting new policies, emerging trends, and their implications for both claimants and businesses. By addressing these objectives, the presentation equips participants with practical knowledge to navigate and optimize UI processes in a post-pandemic environment.

Three reasons to attend the session:

  1. Learn the UI process from the claimant’s perspective:  How to file, who is entitled, how does severance impact UI, in what state should I file the claim, etc?
  2. Learn how an organization can control it’s UI process to save money
  3. How has the UI landscape changed post-pandemic

Today’s Speaker

Todd has an MBA degree from Fordham University. Todd has been with Industrial U.I. since 1991. He is one of the most sought after speakers on the subject of unemployment insurance, having given presentations to clients, trade associations, Administrative Law Judge meetings, etc. He is also an expert on UI taxes and subjects such as calculating tax rates, and making voluntary contributions to lower tax rates in states where such contributions are allowed, thereby allowing Industrial U.I.’s tax rated clients to project future tax rates and budget properly for unemployment cost control.
