Jim will discuss how corporate executives and their boards identify opportunities and take M&A deals from the initial vetting phase all the way through due diligence, deal structuring, documentation and closing. This presentation will focus on the extensive process and organizational alignment required to achieve the ultimate goal: increase long-term shareholder value while mitigating enterprise risks.

Jim Diller has served in Corporate Development roles since 1999, most recently as Managing Director and Head of Corporate Development at Choice Hotels where he served as a trusted advisor to the Board, partner to the CEO, member of the Finance Leadership Team, and chair of the Growth Initiatives Committee (2016 to 2020). During his tenure at Marriott International (2004 to 2016) Jim was the go-to Finance resource for M&A, guiding senior management in evaluating, structuring and negotiating deals. He also served in a wide range of Corporate Finance roles, leading FP&A, Treasury and Investor Relations project teams in collaboration with the Accounting Policy, Tax, IT and Real Estate functions. He began his career at Chemonics International, supporting the CEO and two PE investors in evaluating M&A opportunities.

While at Choice, Jim led negotiations with Brookfield Asset Management to close the $231 million WoodSpring Suites acquisition. His team reviewed 30+ opportunities from 2016-2020. Key transactions while at Marriott included the $14 billion Marriott-Starwood merger and Marriott’s $210 million acquisition of Gaylord Hotels. From 2010-2014 Jim served in a secretary capacity to Marriott’s Corporate Growth Committee which authorizes all strategic corporate investments.
