Topic: An Overview of the Final IRS Section 263(a) Tangible Property Regulations

Speakers: Michelle Outerbridge and Paul Turner of Berman Goldman & Ribakow LLP (bgr CPAs)

Michelle Outerbridge, CPA, CFP will discuss the IRS issued final regulations which provides guidance on the applications of sections 263(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. The final regulations provide guidance for taxpayers in determining whether taxpayers must capitalize costs incurred in acquiring, maintaining or improving property. The effective date of the regulations is for taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2014.

The regulations address, amongst other things:
- Guidance for treatment of materials and supplies
- De Minims Safe Harbor Election
- Factors to include in the acquisition cost of capital assets
- Improvement costs

Speaker Bio:
Michelle Outerbridge began her career with bgr CPAs in 1998 and was promoted to Partner in 2012. A graduate of the College of William and Mary, she received her Bachelor\'s Degree in Liberal Arts.

Ms. Outerbridge concentrates her practice in the areas of non-profit, real estate, and automobile dealerships. Michelle co-presents a workshop entitled \"Smart Start Your Business\" at the Center for Business Technology Development, is an active member of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce and serves as Treasurer on the board of HC DrugFree.

Additionally, Ms. Outerbridge completed the necessary coursework to become a Certified Financial Planner.
