Topic: On Board for Success: Building an Effective Board for a Private Company

One of the most impactful decisions a private company can make when choosing to expand and grow is to have a strong, well-constructed, independent board of directors or advisors. Yet, many private companies do not have a board of any kind. Others have a board that does not function effectively and does not provide the advice and accountability that can make a significant difference in the success, if not the viability, of a business.
Please join us for a discussion about one of the most important features of many successful companies. Joe Ayoub will lead a discussion about the steps to consider in establishing an effective board. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their own experiences and ask questions in this interactive session.

Presenter:
Joe Ayoub is the Founder and President of Varuna Strategies, which helps private companies increase enterprise value through best governance practices and in forming and improving the effectiveness of governing boards and he is the Co-host of On Boards Podcast: A Deep Dive at Driving Business Success.
Prior to founding Varuna Strategies, Joe was a partner in the Boston law firms of Nutter, McClennen & Fish, Greenberg Traurig and Robinson & Cole, where he focused his practice on civil litigation, legal risk management and alternative dispute resolution. His years of representing and counseling private companies reinforced his view that a board, which brings outside expertise and experience to a company, is critical in helping stakeholders make informed decisions on the challenges they must address and the strategies they need to make their company successful.
Joe received his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Tufts University and his J.D. from Boston University. Joe is also actively involved in a number of civic and charitable organizations including as a member of the national Board of Directors of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, the Tufts University School of Medicine Board of Advisors and the Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Office of Child Advocate. Joe is also an emeritus member of the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts, having served on its board for 33 years, including as its chair.
