Your Job Search is a Bare Knuckle Fight
Jeff Herzog, President and Chief Development Officer of FPC National

Job hunting is a tough proposition in today's market. Whether you've been unemployed for a long time or are just starting your search, here's some advice that is blunt, free and it works! COVID-19 has changed the dynamic even further….video interviews, virtual onboarding and remote jobs create additional challenges, but also provide unique opportunities.  As the leader of an executive recruitment firm with a process proven over 50 years, Jeff Herzog wants you to take a fresh look at your job search through a recruiter’s eyes. His passion for sharing what he has learned led him to write a book entitled Your Job Search is a Bare Knuckle Fight which describes a unique approach.

There is no question that we are living in unprecedented times, especially for those who are looking for a new career opportunity. Few activities have been so drastically altered by technology, the internet and now, a pandemic like searching for a job. Unfortunately companies have become adept at using job boards as barriers instead of entry points. Human resources professionals have been so overwhelmed with applicants that resumes have become a useless commodity instead of a valuable document.

Popular belief and career coaching tells you to search far and wide, to be flexible and apply to as many opportunities as possible. Everyone is also instructed to follow the “perceived” rules of engagement, and be patient. Quite simply, this is wrong. What people must realize is that searching for a career is a SALES JOB and ultimately a BARE KNUCKLE FIGHT. You need to be smart, aggressive and rely only on yourself to succeed. During Jeff’s presentation we will explore ways to help you to create a plan, seek out opportunities and ultimately land your next job!

Prior to Jeff’s presentation and interactive discussion we will spend some time on introductions. Come prepared with a written 90 second introduction which should include:

1.     Who you are and what you do

2.     Why you do it

3.     What sets you apart from everyone else

4.     How you get important things done

5.     What is the benefit to the company you would work for

Practice your pitch and try it out with your friends at FENG - compare contrast and revise it until you hear it in your sleep. This skill will serve you long after you land your next assignment.

Alumni members are encouraged to attend this meeting and participate in the discussion - it is a great way to give back to the group, and to maintain and build your network. Don’t miss this opportunity to share and learn from your fellow FENG members.
