Topic: How to Be an Engaging Job Candidate

Speaker: Adam Tarnow, Founder, Tarnow and Company

Presentation:
A 2015 study by Microsoft determined the average attention span for an adult is around eight seconds. For context, that is roughly equal to the attention span of a goldfish.

Eight seconds. That's how long you have to engage someone with your resume, on the phone, or during an interview. You have eight seconds to prove you are the best candidate for the job.

Short attention spans have a profound impact on organizational life. Especially in the area of hiring.

This class will give financial professionals new battle tactics for this new day. Learning to battle short attention spans allows professionals to stand out from the crowd and ultimately land the job they want.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this class, participants will be able to…
1. Differentiate between the five most common causes of boredom.
2. Recognize how boredom negatively impacts them during the job search.
3. Apply various communication principles that will reduce boredom and increase engagement during their job search.

Speaker’s bio:
The first two decades of Adam's career couldn't have been more different.

After graduating from Clemson University with an accounting degree, he spent ten years as a CPA working with PricewaterhouseCoopers, The Neiman Marcus Group and finally BKD CPAs & Advisors.

The next ten years of his career were spent working at Watermark Community Church. While on staff, he had stints leading in the marriage ministry, college ministry, and ended his time at Watermark as the Director of Arts.

Adam is now the founder of Tarnow & Company, a business development consulting firm focused on accountants and other professional service providers. In addition, Adam is also a sought after communicator on the topics of communication, conflict resolution, executive presence, and emerging leadership.

Over his career, Adam has spoken over 500 times in churches and businesses. Adam has a unique gift for making the complex simple and disarming audiences with his wit, humility, and self-deprecating humor.

Adam has been married since December 2003 and has two boys. Free time in the Tarnow house typically involves playing, watching, or talking about some type of sport (especially baseball, basketball, and golf).
