Speakers' Bios

Reed Hollander

Reed is a litigation attorney and focuses his practice primarily on state and local tax (SALT) controversies, including property tax, sales and use tax and other excise taxes, corporate and individual income tax. He represents clients in a variety of industries including retail, manufacturing, life sciences, and healthcare in matters involving tax strategy, administrative challenges and appeals, and contested cases before the North Carolina Property Tax Commission and North Carolina Office of Administrative Hearings. Reed also represents clients in the appeal of such cases before the North Carolina Business Court, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of North Carolina. His appellate practice has included appeals of matters within the Second, Fourth, and Tenth U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals and to the United States Supreme Court. He has spoken and published articles on state and local tax controversy issues regionally and nationally.  In addition to his state and local tax practice, Reed represents clients in matters involving eminent domain and condemnation law, economic development, and administrative and business litigation.

Stephen Brown

Stephen Brown focuses his practice on business formation and structuring, wealth transfer planning, and litigation involving fiduciaries, trusts, estates and guardianships. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law.  Stephen regularly advises individuals on a range of estate planning strategies, including the use of simple and complex trust arrangements to achieve their personal and charitable objectives in a tax advantaged manner. He also has extensive experience advising clients regarding estate, trust and guardianship matters, including will disputes, breach of fiduciary duty claims, marital rights in estate and trusts, irrevocable trust modification, asset protection, and incompetency proceedings.  Stephen also advises closely held businesses on a range of issues, including governance, mergers and acquisitions, buy-sell agreements, employment agreements and federal and state tax disputes.

Matt Burke

Matt is a trial lawyer and litigator at Young Moore. He helps a wide variety of clients including businesses of all sizes and individuals with litigation, pre-litigation, and risk management needs.  Matt’s major practice areas include commercial litigation, non-competition and related restrictive covenant disputes, insurance coverage and related litigation, and claims involving employment, construction, products liability, and premises liability.  Matt is also a part of the firm’s team that services rural electric cooperatives in North Carolina.

Christy Dunn

Christy concentrates her practice on civil litigation, insurance law, and employment law.  She advises insurance carriers and policyholders on first-party and third-party coverage matters and represents insurance companies in bad faith and coverage litigation.  Christy also represents employers, electric membership corporations, and long-term care facilities in civil litigation and employment law matters.
