The State of Energy  | Managing Assets & Portfolios in a Post Pandemic Economy

Emerging from a pandemic that crippled the global economy presents some unique challenges and opportunities. The dire predictions of a post-pandemic world characterized by increased global risks, decoupling of economies, shake-up of global value chains, and the retreat of globalization drives varying performances in assets and portfolios across the energy sector.

The FENG will bring together insights from the Federal Reserve Bank & leading experts in energy and finance to discuss the unfolding dynamics and the opportunities they present as we manage and operate our various assets and portfolios in the post-pandemic economy. 


J.P. Hanson | Managing Director | Head of Oil & Gas Group | Houlihan Lokey | www.HL.com  

Mr. Hanson is Head of Houlihan Lokey’s Oil & Gas Group and Co-Head of the Energy Group. He is based in the firm’s Houston office.

During his career, Mr. Hanson has worked on numerous financing, M&A, A&D, valuation, and financial recapitalization/restructuring engagements. In addition to domestic U.S. transactions, he has advised corporations, boards of directors, management teams, and stakeholders in multiple global and cross-border transactions regarding the structuring, negotiation, and implementation of a wide variety of corporate finance transactions in the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry.

Before joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Hanson was a Manager of Alternative Lending at Commonfund Mortgage Corp., where he structured whole loan and portfolio fundings, sales, and securitizations involving a variety of asset-backed lending transactions. Earlier in his career, he held a similar position at MoneyLine Lending. Mr. Hanson began his career in finance trading fixed income securities at NNJ, a private family wealth fund formerly based in San Francisco.

Mr. Hanson has been an author, co-author, and speaker on various topics, including trends in E&P finance and valuation, and financing markets and valuation dynamics in a distressed environment, among others. He previously served on the board of directors of Bennu Oil & Gas, LLC, an entity established for the purpose of acquiring and operating oil and gas properties in the Gulf of Mexico.

Mr. Hanson earned a dual B.A. degree, cum laude, in Italian and International Finance from Brigham Young University and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Coleman’s client service experience includes leading large-scale transformation initiatives, optimizing financial management processes in complex, global business environments. 

Coleman has over 30 years’ experience working with power utility and upstream, midstream and downstream energy companies’ operations and financial systems.  He has provided consulting services to a wide variety of energy and utility clients in the areas of risk assessment, SOX compliance, general controls reviews, organizational design, strategic IT planning, software selection, software implementation, business process improvement, best practices reviews, post implementation stabilization, and decision analytics.

Coleman’s client service has included supporting audits of public and private companies, as well as leading engagements to improve their finance operations and control environments. He has led several IPO Readiness engagements, to assist energy clients prepare for SEC compliance. Prior to coming to BKD, Coleman spent 23 years with a Big 4 firm in their Risk Advisory and Consulting practices.   Before that, he spent 7 years at Shell Oil Company in the upstream and midstream accounting and finance groups. Coleman is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.   He also serves on the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of Houston.

Coleman is a graduate of Texas A&M University, with a B.B.A. in Accounting and Management Information Systems.  He also holds a M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Houston.

 

Steve Everley | Managing Director | FTI Consulting | www.fticonsulting.com

Steve Everley has more than a decade of experience working with the energy industry to develop impactful research and communications strategies. Mr. Everley regularly advises individual companies, trade associations, and industry coalitions on high profile issues such as methane and flaring, climate policy and litigation, induced seismicity, and public lands development. 

Mr. Everley currently serves as an advisor for Texans for Natural Gas, a grassroots advocacy campaign of more than 400,000 members who support oil and natural gas development in Texas, and Energy In Depth, a nationally-recognized research and education program of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, which focuses on hydraulic fracturing and onshore U.S. energy development. He is frequently sought for comment by national and regional news outlets across the country, and he has also been recognized as one of the top ten global influencers on social media in the oil and gas exploration sector.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting in May 2011, Mr. Everley served as an energy policy advisor to former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich at the American Enterprise Institute and American Solutions. Mr. Everley focused primarily on regulatory issues impacting the energy industry, and he co-authored the energy chapter in Gingrich’s 2010 book, To Save America.

 

Jesse Thompson | Senior Business Economist | Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas | www.dallasfed.org 

Jesse Thompson serves as senior business economist at the Houston Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Thompson, who joined the Bank in 2010, performs research and analysis on issues affecting the Houston and Gulf Coast economy. In particular, he studies issues surrounding area hydrocarbon industries. He also collects information for the Dallas Fed’s Beige Book summary of current economic conditions. He is author of the monthly Energy Indicators, the Houston Economic Indicators, and contributes to the quarterly publication Southwest Economy.

Thompson earned an MA in economics, with emphasis on empirical microeconomics, and BA in philosophy and economics from the University of Houston.

Godswill Nwankwo | Managing Director | Asset Beta 

Godswill Nwankwo serves as the President and CEO of an energy focused private equity and project finance company.

Godswill is an engineer, computer scientist, MBA, oilfield veteran, finance manager and entrepreneur.

Godswill currently work with his team and affiliates to build and deploy sustainable operational and financial strategies that are geared towards growing value in the short and long term. He has a multi-cultural work background in oil and gas, both overseas and domestic. He had built and successfully ran oilfield companies, while driving value added solutions and services to his customers.

Godswill had previously worked for Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker Hughes INTEQ and several national and multi-national companies both in Nigeria and overseas.

Godswill has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) from Rivers State University in Nigeria. He also has a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Computer Science with specialization in Cognitive Artificial Intelligence from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. Godswill also acquired a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance with specialization in Private Equity and Investments from the University of Houston CT Bauer College of Business in Houston, Texas.
